Meet Adam Harner:
Bayer's Drone Expert Leading Agricultural Practices
Adam Harner is a dedicated employee based in Whitestown, Indiana, Adam plays a pivotal role in field operations, leveraging his expertise as a licensed drone operator. Join us as we delve into Adam's journey and his passion for harnessing drone technology to propel Bayer towards a sustainable future in farming.
My name is Adam Harner, and I work as a Bayer employee in Whitestown, Indiana, where I play a vital role in field operations. I'm involved in various tasks, ranging from planting and scouting to note-taking, field maintenance, and harvest activities. Operating different equipment, including combines during harvest season, is part of my routine.
Once planting season wraps up, my primary focus shifts to scouting our plots and capturing aerial photos with drones. I've been a licensed drone operator for the past two years at Bayer, and it's a role I thoroughly enjoy. My go-to drones are the DJI Phantom 4 and Mavic 2.
Throughout the growing season, I conduct three rounds of aerial photography. The first round occurs when the crops are just sprouting from the ground. The second round takes place in mid-summer, when the crops are at their peak maturity. The final round happens right before harvest, capturing the changing colors of the crops. These photos are instrumental in helping our team assess the growth stages of the crops and identify problem areas like wet spots and damage.
By pinpointing these issues in the photos, it's easier for us to locate them and head out to the fields for a closer inspection if necessary. Additionally, I assist in operating our M300 drone, which employs infrared technology to gather valuable information about the crops, such as stand count, disease detection, and plant height.
This task usually requires teamwork, and I collaborate with another coworker who also holds a drone license. Together, we set up ground control points and record GPS points in the field to ensure accurate flight paths for the drone. Once everything is set, the drone follows a programmed mission for each field, staying within the designated GPS points.
Working with drones is not only fascinating but also incredibly rewarding. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this technology in the agricultural industry.

Canada Trip
Greetings, fellow agriculture enthusiasts! or plant lovers!
I recently had the opportunity to visit Canada and meet with over 30 contractors and more than 10 managers from Bayer. During my trip, I had the chance to tour Bayer's facilities and learn about their efforts to develop crops that are resilient to pests and diseases while thriving in various conditions.
The experience was quite fascinating, to say the least. Bayer is deeply invested in sustainable agriculture, recognizing the challenges posed by climate change and the need for resilient crops. Throughout the tour, I saw how Bayer combines advanced technology with traditional farming practices to achieve their goals.
One of the highlights was witnessing the process of crop development firsthand. Bayer employs precision breeding techniques and advanced genetic engineering to create crops that can withstand environmental stressors. Additionally, they prioritize environmental sustainability in their approach.
My discussions with Bayer's industry experts emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing agricultural innovation. By working together and sharing knowledge, we can address the pressing issues facing our food systems by providing them with staff members who are just as passionate about it as they are.
Overall, my trip to Canada was eye-opening and reinforced my belief in the potential of agricultural innovation. Bayer's efforts, along with those of other industry leaders, give hope for a future where food security is achievable.
Thanks to Bayer and everyone involved for the enlightening experience.

HarveStaff Iowa’s Trip
Lori Walter and Rose Smith recently traveled to Iowa, where they engaged with our employees and the talented athletes of Force Volleyball, a team we proudly sponsor. This visit strengthened our community bonds and showcased our commitment to youth development and female empowerment.
During their trip, Lori and Rose connected with dedicated employees and met with Force Volleyball athletes, highlighting our support for their growth on and off the court. Our partnership with Force Volleyball exemplifies our dedication to community engagement, providing resources for athletes to thrive.
The trip also included visits to key Bayer work sites and interactions with 20 HarveStaff contractors, fostering connections and offering meaningful support. One memorable encounter during the trip involved meeting a contractor who had recently celebrated the arrival of a new baby, an event we had featured in our newsletter. His genuine appreciation for our visit, lunch, and newsletter was heartwarming. However, it was our sponsorship of Force Volleyball and our presence at the state playoffs that truly brought joy to his face, reaffirming our efforts in fostering support within the community.
Following our return, Bayer expressed interest in hiring a team of interns in Huxley, Iowa, validating the success of our trip. This journey was about cultivating a community of support and understanding, leaving a positive impact on all those we encountered.
Letter from Force Volleyball
This 2024 season was full of new challenges which brought even greater success. Prior to the start of the season Force Volleyball was approached by members of the community after learning another non-profit club was closing their doors, leaving many young female athletes unable to participate in the upcoming season. Through the generous contributions of sponsors, like HarveStaff, we were able to expand to a younger age group, as well as provide scholarships for young female athletes who would not have had the opportunity otherwise.
Our teams found success at every age level, starting with our new thirteen and under team qualifying to make their first appearance in the State Tournament along with their eighteen and under "Big Sister" team. We were excited to announce one of our eighteen and under captains, Katie Holmes has signed her letter of intent to continue her volleyball career with Simpson College. Katie has played with the Force Volleyball club since the inception in 2019 and will be a huge asset to the Simpson Storm team. As our club is focused around continuous development of athletes and young women, we were also able to initiate our player to coach internship program. This program helps develop graduating athletes interested in a career in coaching to develop their leadership skills, as well as expand their resumes for the future. It is only with ongoing support of our sponsors that we can continue to offer this program to over fifty athletes.
Thank you doesn't begin to express our appreciate for your support of these young women. Iowa Force Volleyball is proud to partner with HarveStaff in mentoring these female athletes and teaching these young females, anything is possible with hard work and dedication.
